FinOps brings engineering, finance, and business together to manage cloud spend. Learn the framework and why SaaS is the blind spot in most programs.

FinOps is an operational framework and cultural practice that brings engineering, finance, and business teams together to manage variable cloud spend, so technology cost becomes a shared, data-driven decision instead of a finance-only concern. The FinOps Foundation defines it around three iterative phases: inform, optimize, and operate.
FinOps grew out of infrastructure consumption, where usage is metered by the hour and the provider hands you the data. SaaS behaves differently: fixed seats, annual commitments, automatic renewal clauses, and no usage telemetry from the vendor. Most FinOps programs therefore optimize the cloud bill while the SaaS line, frequently the larger one in a mid-market company, stays outside the practice entirely.
A 300-person company runs a mature FinOps practice on its infrastructure and cuts that bill by 22 percent over a year. In the same period, SaaS spend rises 40 percent across 120 tools nobody allocates, meters, or reviews before renewal. Applying the three phases to SaaS, allocating each subscription to an owner, measuring real seat usage, and operating a renewal calendar, is what closes the gap. Corma supplies the usage and ownership data SaaS FinOps needs and vendors do not provide.
Cost optimization is one phase of FinOps. The framework also covers allocation, accountability, and the operating model that stops savings from eroding after the first pass.
It is deliberately shared. Finance sets the framework, engineering makes the consumption decisions, and a FinOps practitioner maintains the data and the cadence.
The principles do, the tooling usually does not. SaaS lacks the consumption telemetry cloud providers expose, so usage data has to be collected from the applications themselves.
Allocation. Until every euro of spend has a named owner, no optimization decision can be assigned to anyone able to act on it.
